What is ethical clothing?
Today, ethical clothing is undefined. It can mean anything from fair trade to eco-friendly to transparency in production. There are no guidelines in place. At Future:Standard, we use the term to define any item that has taken into account the planet and the people producing the item. The manufacturer has placed a value on the environmental and social impact.

How do you choose your merchandise?
We realize that many of our products aren’t perfect, but we set our standards high. Some are more eco-friendly than others, some have philanthropic business models, and some are certified fair trade and many are made in the US.

We select items that are transparent in their design, manufacturing and distribution processes. We look for brands that are doing what they can. We look for items with a smaller footprint and a concern for the people behind the product. We ask the designers about their production processes. If it seems like the designer is working to become more sustainable and ethical, we will reward them by buying. We hope that traditional brands will begin to realize the value in creating ethical items. We also hope that eventually everything will be created ethically and there will be no need for the label, that this becomes the standard.

What if my size or color is unavailable?
Much of our merchandise is very limited, but sometimes we are able to get you a special order. Please let us know and we will do our best to get it for you. customerservice@shopfuturestandard.com.
What is your Sustainable Shipping Standard?
We can’t guarantee the shape, size, or state of the box your order will come in, but it meets our standards because it is recycled and reused (we like to call it pre-loved). That’s our standard, Future:Standard.

We do our best to reuse all of our boxes to reduce our impact. We also purchase carbon offsets to offset our shipping, energy consumption and other activities.
How do you ship?
Future:Standard offers free USPS Priority shipping on all orders over $100 and $5 for orders under $100 to U.S. customers. Items are usually shipped one business day after the order has been placed and should arrive within three days, although it is not guaranteed.

Shipping is $5 for orders under $100. If you need your items sooner, we will ship next day for $30 and two day for $18

You may be surprised to find that your order arrived in a used box. This is not an accident. We do our best to reuse all of our boxes to reduce our impact. We also purchase Green Tags to offset our footprint from shipping, energy consumption and other activities.

What is your return policy?
We want you to love your item as much as we do. If you are not satisfied, please return it to us unworn, in the condition you received it, with all tags attached. Items returned within thirty days will be refunded, minus shipping charges.

Clearance items (items marked down 50% or more) and lingerie cannot be returned or exchanged. If an item was shipped incorrectly, please let us know so we can arrange return shipping and get you the correct item as soon as possible.

What is your privacy policy?
We value your privacy. The information you give us will only be used to fill orders, communicate with you about your order and to send you information about Future Standard’s upcoming events, announcements and special offers.

We ask for your phone number to contact you regarding order related issues. We will not use your phone number for any other purpose, unless you ask to be called.

We will never sell, rent, or disclose your personal information to a third party.

We do not store credit card information in our system or share it with outside parties. We use Authorize.net for all of our credit card purchases and our site is protected with an SSL certificate.
I need a gift, can you help?
Yes, we offer electronic gift certificates and gift-wrapping. We will also enclose a card and a personalized message. We use recycled paper products for our gift-wrapping for an additional charge of $5.
