5 Inspiring Women in Ethical Style

Standard Setters | 5 INSPIRING WOMEN IN ETHICAL STYLE

In honor of Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day, here are 5 women that inspire me to live more consciously and with ethical style. I admire each one for her contribution to ethical style, sustainability, and eco-friendliness. She has used her celebrity to push for change. When I started writing this, I didn’t realize how many amazing women I would come up with in just the brainstorm session. So, I picked just a few, and will most likely revisit this topic and write about the endless inspiring women in ethical style. But for now, here are

5 inspiring women in ethical style:

Emma Watson, Ethical Fashion Inspiration

1. Emma Watson, ethical style icon

There is a reason Emma Watson is number one on this list. She is basically an ethical style queen! She’s been using her celebrity to promote ethical fashion since at least 2009, when she collaborated with People Tree. She has encouraged eco-friendly costumes in her films, worn recycled plastic dresses, and of course, this month, covered and guest edited Vogue Australia‘s eco-fashion issue, saying, “Now is the time for THOUGHTFUL FASHION.” I couldn’t agree more, which is why she’s leading up my list of women I admire in ethical style. Thank you Emma for all you do!

2. Eileen Fisher, ethical style pioneer

Eileen Fisher has been leading the way in ethical fashion as long as I can remember. She started her company in 1984, and has been making livable, high quality, ethical garments ever since. This company lives and breathes it. From the sourcing, to the manufacturing, the end of lifecycle, and the corporate culture, Eileen Fisher (the company and the woman) is an ethical fashion pioneer.

3. Livia Firth, ethical style activist

Activist, award winner, celebrity, visionary, trailblazer…I had a hard time coming up with the headline for this her! We have obviously had our eyes on her for a while, admiring her

4. Queen Elizabeth, ethical style royalty

After watching Blue Planet IIa documentary series by David Attenborough, the Queen was so inspired, she banned plastic straws and bottles from her estates. This is a move that is in line with the rest of Europe’s plans to move away from plastic. If this seems small, consider the estates include multiple public cafes, staff dining rooms, and internal palace catering at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The Palace is also undergoing a 10 year renovation to make it more efficient and eco-friendly.

5. Tiffany Haddish, ethical style celebrity

Ethical Style Inspiration: Tiffany Haddish wore her dress three times!

In a very unconventional move, by Hollywood standards, Tiffany Haddish wore her Oscar dress three times (yes, you could practically hear Hollywood collectively gasp! What! Twice?! Three times?! Unheard of!).

And why not? Because one, if I had an Alexander McQueen dress, I might wear it every day. “Who is that formal lady near the veggies at Sprouts?” Two, if I looked like that in any dress, I would wear it every day. Again, “who is that mom who keeps showing up in formal wear to the bounce house?” and Three,

We need to get away from this culture of one wear dresses.

30 wears, ladies, that is the goal here. Thank you, Tiffany for showing us it (well, at least three wears) can be done, and done beautifully!

Happy International Women’s Day! We hope you surround yourself with inspiring, strong, standard setting women today!
